WCFW - Genette Salgado

Up and coming designer Genette Salgado recently finished an internship in New York, and yesterday showed her Autumn/Winter 2011 collection during Western Canada Fashion Week here in Edmonton. This was her third collection, and was entitled "Baby Whatcha Gonna Do With Your Life." After the show, I got an opportunity to chat with the designer to see what lies ahead for her career.
As for her inspiration for this collection, Genette took influence from the Edwardian Period and used a wonderful mix of flowers and studs on her dresses. The last dress to walk down the runway took her 4 hours to embellish! As for the type of girl who wears her clothes, she mentioned a girl who is "super cool, laid back, loves fashion, and doesn't really try hard," but they also have a little bit of "edginess, and rock and roll" to them as well.  Genette also notes that she would love to dress all her closest girl friends, who are all strong, independent artists. In the short run, she is aiming to start something up online or consignment for people to purchase her clothing, and hopes to potentially continue her career in New York or wherever her career takes her!

For more information on Genette check out her website.

Above are some of my favorite looks from her collection!

  1. Nice collection. I like the pastel/earthy tones with the floral (and bead?) details. Kudos to Genette =)

  2. Wow, cool post. I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real hard work to make a great article... but I put things off too much and never seem to get started. Thanks though.
